Story
Please help me to raise funds for a personal journey that will sap my soul and tax my energy in one of the most thought-provoking environments on this earth.
Further details of the project can be found at: https://www.african-adventures.co.uk/the-walk
Hilton dump-site is the main waste disposal area for Nakura, the fourth largest town in Kenya. Hundreds of families live on the perimeter of the site, recycling metals and plastics to sustain the most basic form of living. . Sanitation is poor – 12 families sharing one long-drop toilet. Children play next to raw sewage. State school is expensive, with classes 100-strong - little chance of hearing the teacher or having homework marked.
In October (half-term) this year I will be travelling to Nakura, Kenya with my 15-year old daughter and her school friends/teachers to take part in a 10-day community educational project where, as volunteers, we will assist in primary school classrooms, or alternatively in the expansion and improvement of school facilities – to continue building a new primary school - a developing project that is now in its 8th year.
African Adventures started working in Kenya in 2009. They have already built and now run, several pre-primary school facilities. A great deal has been achieved in the communities they support but there is still so much to do. Malnutrition is commonplace so the work of African Adventures is not only focused on the provision of an education, but also on providing a daily meal, which is achieved through the projects’ feeding programmes. Their partner projects are a daily safe-haven for the children that attend.
My fund-raising target is £2000 as I intend to pay for the flight costs myself. The target covers our accommodation, visa, vaccinations, basic food and security guards, while we are also fund-raising for the building programme and supervisory staff of this excellent project.
If you can offer any sponsorship for my daughter and I we would be most grateful.
