Story
14 year old Sam was rushed into hospital on Sunday afternoon; he had been ill for the last week with what was thought to be just a common cold.
The truth was a lot more serious.
Sam's right leg was paralyzed and he had a sinus infection that had spread to his brain. He was immediately transferred to Leeds General Infirmary for emergency brain surgery to remove the infected tissue and relieve the pressure in his skull.
Sam is currently stable and after many hours of surgery he is now recovering in ICU.
He is expected to be in hospital for at least the next 2 months, with a long and painful road to recovery.
At this stage, we are unsure of anything, we don't know if the surgery will result in the full use of is right leg or whether it has caused irreversible damage.
The point of this page is to be able to provide Sam and his Mum Tina with as much support possible. The funds will go towards the cost of transport for Tina, to and from LGI. Hospital appointments when Sam's well enough to finally return home, for TV and WI-FI whilst he is in hospital (£5 per day) because let's face it, what teenager do you know that would't lose the plot stuck in hospital for 2 months?!
Tina will of course be by his side throughout his recovery, this will obviously be a struggle whilst unable to work and unable to provide an income. The funds would hopefully take away the added stress of managing to pay the household bills and go someway towards making things that little bit less stressful whilst supporting Sam.
Anything you can donate would be immensely appreciated, however small a donation.
On behalf of Sam,Tina and Jack may I thank you in advance of your generosity.
Thank you. x

7 years ago***UPDATE FROM TINA*** "The good news is the medication Sam is on is killing the infection on his brain. The bad news is they have also killed his immune system so his white cell count is dangerously low. This means he won't be getting transferred back to Halifax until after the New Year "

7 years ago***UPDATE*** He's not got out of school work either, Brooksbank and the schooling team at LGI have had him doing some work so he doesn't fall behind. His scars are healing nicely and are very neat indeed, his hair is growing over them now but still very sensitive. He's off the morphine but still on the IV antibiotics 3 times a day. Physio has been going well and although weak, he has got the use of his leg and arm back. WELL DONE SAM! XX

Tina has been a good friend to me and I wanted to help out in any which way I can. Tina, Sam and Jack have not had an easy time over the past few years. Sam's a lovely, kind, caring lad and we just want to see him comfortable and back home as soon as possible.
