In 2016 alone, there has been a 40% increase in the number of reported rape and sexual assault cases and globally, one in three women will experience some form of sexual violence in their lifetime.

While it is positive to see that more woman are now starting to feel comfortable to come forward and seek justice, this has however, put a strain on support services within the Avon and Somerset area. Due to lack of funding, support services are unable to provide what we believe is the necessary support and help all survivors are entitled to! The average waiting list for many services including counselling/therapy is six months, leaving women vulnerable and isolated with nowhere to go.

As we're sure you understand, there is a vital need for more support for women who experience sexual violence. Due to this we have started Safe Space. Safe Space is a free, independent support group, created by survivors, for survivors. The purpose of the group is to give women a secure and inclusive space to take back control, have a voice and empower themselves and others.

Through research as well as support from other organisations within the field, we have found that there is a serious need for such a unique service like Safe Space. With your help, we are looking to raise £700 which will go towards the continuation of venue hire, resources, and travel expenses, as we believe Safe Space should be accessible to ALL women. We hope to build a network of empowered and supported women and in doing so, change the way survivors reclaim back their lives.
