Iʼve raised £330 to provide sanitary protection for women in remote Indian villages who suffer indignity, infection and exclusion during their periods.

    Story

Sanitary Protection for Indian women in Rural Villages

Only 12% of girls and women in India have access to sanitary products. Women in remote tribal villages endure lives of unending and backbreaking drudgery out in the fields and within the home.

To add indignity to their hardship, when they menstruate they are considered unclean and made to sleep in the fields, and menstruating girls are even denied schooling.

When my friend Sara visited Madhya Pradesh in central India earlier this year she was privileged to meet women in a remote village where they have no option but to use crude, unclean, degrading, shared material during their periods, often causing serious infection.

Sara was so dismayed by what she saw that she decided to raise enough money to provide the women and girls of these local villages with packs of re-usable, eco-friendly cotton pads which can be washed in cold water and will last three to five years, costing £10. I am helping her.

Please help to provide these Indian women with sanitary protection and education on how to use them. For the cost of 4 cups of Costa coffee in the UK each woman could have her own means to protect her health and promote self-respect for years to come.

Thank you for reading this. If you wish to make a donation we would be hugely grateful for any amount whatsoever.

Hello Just a note to thank you for your support for EcoFemme. The sum of £330 is not insignificant and will provide approximately 50 women in remote Indian villages with sanitary products to protect them from infection, help change the negative attitudes towards menstruation and give them their dignity. We have other events to raise funds which, altogether, have raised over £3,000. The campaign continues..... Thank you again for your kindness, Sue Tait
