Our mission:

The University of Sussex Rowing Club (USRC) will be completing a 24-hour row this Spring, and we need your help!

For a full day (and night), Sussex Rowers will be taking shifts on a rowing machine, keeping the flywheel spinning the entire time.

Background:

USRC is only three years old, but we're keen to develop, and determined to succeed. We're taking on the challenge in order to fund transport to and from our club only really accessible by car. Next year we are hoping to expand our membership but most of the cars we use for liftsharing are going and so the next best alternative is paying for coach hire. We have 20 active members currently and without adequate transport our club will be unsustainable.

Alongside this, we are raising money for 'Mind', a mental health charity which many of us in the club hold close to our hearts, knowing someone struggling with mental health problems or having been affected ourselves.

As many of you know who have rowed, rowing is such a mentally challenging sport, requiring determination, commitment and the ability to see beyond the short-term struggle. Sport is recognised as a useful adjunct to overcome many health problems such as depression, stress and anxiety. In fact, several of our squad have used rowing to treat their own mental health problems. Rowing is such a fantastic way to bond, and build up will power, we would love it to continue.

Our ambition:

If we raised our target of £2000, we can be set for transport for this next year and can give a sizeable donation to such a fantastic charity.

We receive no funding from the University, so we rely solely on donations and membership fees to fund our activities. Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance for your generosity!
