Story
The team of dedicated volunteers at the Sutton & Wawne Museum seek to raise funds to enable essential repairs to 'The Old School' building, which is in need of major work on the brickwork and very large Victorian windows. Without such repairs, the 'The Old School' will ultimately have to close, along with Merrill's museum and all the valuable archives collected within over a period of more than 20 years. The Old School is Grade II listed, and was opened as St James' Church of England School in 1859. It closed in 1976, was used as a storehouse for many years, and finally saved for the people of Sutton on Hull by a vicar and his wife, and a willing team of volunteers in 1999. We seek to take that 20 year heritage, and legacy, into the future.

3 years agoThank you everyone for your support. To date, £305 has been raised, which has come from a variety of sources, including Rosemary Webb's 100-mile walk (which is still ongoing and just halfway) and the Sutton on Hull Street Boot held last weekend. One outcome is that, with some of the extra and very unexpected gifts we have had, we also plan to 'do something' with the floor in the museum room. It's looking very scruffy and battleworn at the moment, needs a repaint, and these extra funds will help enormously. Thank you, one and all.
