    Story

Over 15 years ago an area of natural, native woodland was left broken & fragmented. Sold off into plots and subject to heavy duty abuse ranging from car burn outs to the spread of non native species. This was the beginning of the West Kent Downs Countryside Trust. The Members of the charity valiantly began a mission to return this area into the area of natural beauty it once was.

Removing debris, creating safe walkways, monitoring Biodiversity and implementing a range of conservation techniques to increase & protect the biodiversity. With the current climate crisis and humanity undergoing a serious re-think of our damaging actions, massive action must be taken. It is our responsibility to protect as much of the natural world as possible and the Cuxton and Cobham woodland project (CCWP) is 110 acres of land that is included in this.

With many of the plots remaining unowned by the CCWP the area cannot be fully protected & preserved. Massive funding is required to support the 1000s of hours that have already gone into every element of this project from legal battles to tree planting.

Two years ago I personally became involved in their cause, upon speaking to Roger & Mike from the WKDCT the time they had put into the project moved me. Years of their life had gone into it. Myself and my team at Sustainable Garden Solutions began attending there open work days, contributing to web design, membership plans, helping produce and maintain their social media and being of aid when possible.

Now the greatest contribution we could make is funding. Funding would primarily go towards the purchase of the remaining plotlands and the solicitor and consultancy fees that go alongside that with any additional fundraising being used towards Biodiversity increasing projects such as tree & shrub planting & habitat installation such as the Pond Project.

So we introduced the Tough Barrow 2021! As a team of Garden Designers, Landscapers & Maintenance Men we are no stranger to hard work, wheel barrows & Mud! We have committed to running a marathon around these beautiful woodlands with... a wheelbarrow!

This is no easy feat. All of the team regularly work 5-7 days on site with additional roles, family & social responsibilities. This is no easy feat and will be mentally and physically demanding for all of us. None of whom are runners in any respect.

The power of scale would allow minor donations to go a long way however we urge you to dig deep as we will have to to contribute to our cause.

Given COVID-19 & Government regulation this event may even be made public with paid team entry being available for teams of any availability to come along and push themselves whilst contributing to a meaningful cause.
