Story
Monile! Or in other words… Hello!
Team Ungweru have decided to support a brilliant school for International Volunteers Day which took place on the 5th December 2016.
Baula C.D.S.S. (Community Day Secondary School) is a girls’ boarding school located within the rural community of Baula. The school is attended by both girls and boys within the community with teachers also housed on site with the girls. The headmaster of Baula, Mr Yobediyo, is currently attempting to build more lodgings for his students and teachers so that they may all live far more comfortably. At the moment, the girls are housed within cramped dormitories consisting of two sets of bunk beds per room – his six teachers are also housed within one small lodge on site. Both the students and teachers of Baula C.D.S.S. have limited access to water and electricity.
Furthermore, another issue present at the school is that the one water pump, shared by all within Baula’s community, is located far from the school grounds. This means that the girls who need to access the pump during day and night are at a high risk of being attacked, kidnapped or even raped by local men who use this one essential resource. Mr Yobediyo and his teachers are very concerned for their students’ welfare and would like to implement a system which extracts and carries water from the pump straight to their water tank on site at Baula C.D.S.S. However, such a system requires funding.
This is where we have decided to step in. Team Ungweru aims to raise up to, and over, £1,000 for this brilliant school so that they may continue with their housing project and begin to implement their water extraction system. £1,000 is a MASSIVE amount of money within Malawi - it could pay for well over 100 bags of cement!
We implore you to help such a lovely school in need of international support. Team Ungweru may depart from Malawi toward the end of December, however, we will continue to raise money for Baula C.D.S.S. into early 2017.
