Story
Recovering From Henoch Schonlein Purpura (HSP)
Back in August 2016, after developing what we thought was a cold, suspected appendicitis and a sprained ankle it was discovered that Stan had developed HSP, a disease involving inflammation of the small blood vessels. It attacked his whole body, from randomly swelling joints, attacking his lungs, random bruises and rash all over, but his stomach, kidneys and bowels were effected the most.
After 1 week in Sandwell hospital and amazing care and support, we were allowed home with a plan of few visits to then be discharged after 6-8 weeks. The advised time to be clear of this disease. However, this did not happen for Stan. He went for weekly treatment and tests due to the severity of the HSP's effects on his body. He was left with issues affecting his Kidney's , high blood pressure and suspected damage to his bowels caused by the inflammation, and bursting blood vessels.
Today, Stan still suffers from reoccurring HSP symptoms, and the effects the disease has had on his body, but despite this he still goes around with a smile on his face, and gives everything he does his absolute all, never letting this stop him from reaching his goals and being happy.
Stan loves to swim, run, play football to name a few things, and wants to help others that have to spend so much time in hospital with extra support from the play therapists and the activities they have available. Stan spent a lot of time with the play therapists as he was unable to leave his bed to start. Resources for his age were limited. That is why Stan wants to raise as much as possible to help get new activities that those recovering can enjoy.
Stan still has quite a journey to travel for his road to a full recovery, but will continue to overcome all the obstacles he faces as well as setting his own challenges along the way.
Stan will be competing in the UK Kids Triathlon on 23rd June, this is his first ever Triathlon and will be participating in the Steel category.
Please help support Stan in his first ever event and in his goal to help the children on Sandwell Children's Ward with their recovery through positive play and their therapists.
Thank you for taking the time to read Stan's story, for you support to us a family along the way and for all your support and encouragement for this event.
