Weʼve raised £315 to donate to Heeley City Farm in Sheffield, a great project for and from the local community

Funded on Monday, 27th March 2017

    Story

In a moment of unhinged optimism and curiosity, me and Rob (somewhat naively) signed up to run a Half Marathon on Sunday, 12th March. After the initial feeling of "what have we done?!", we decided that committing hours of time, sweat and willpower into training would be made much easier by trying to turn this into money for something we each believe is worth funding.
As there are so many worthy causes, it was hard to choose... but in the end, my personal decision was to go for a local charity that I know will benefit from every single penny.

Heeley City Farm is a Community project in Sheffield - it is a farm with animals that all need food and a well kept environment to thrive in. But it's much more than than - it's a project that aims to educate and connect people. It's for everyone and for everyone to come together - people of all backgrounds, ages, abilities and disabilities. To give you a little idea - they offer classes and advise on how to grow organic food. There are allotments. They organize a 'repair cafe' where you can learn to repair your old stuff rather than throw it away. They also have their usual cafe with homemade food. They have set up a Dementia Department with animal assisted therapy...

You get the picture. Head to their website for more information if you like! One way or another, as they are run by volunteers, things still need to be paid for. And this is where YOU come in, dear reader =) Even if you don't live in my beloved city of Sheffield, I hope you can see the benefit of keeping local projects like this going.

So this is the part where I will have to ask you for money - never a comfortable situation to be in. Rest assured though that whatever amount will come of this will be much appreciated and handed over with joy. Or, in the words of Jerry Maguire (although it's really not that great a film) - show me the money!
