I have decided to run the Leicester Half marathon for much needed funds to help give Tom’s friend Curtis, as much help as possible, to give him the best quality of life that he deserves.

4 years ago Curtis went on a night out with work colleagues that changed his life for the worst. The night resulted in Curtis being the victim of an unprovoked attack in the middle of Leicester city centre. Curtis suffered severe head injuries which later caused dramatic brain damage following a stroke and excessive swelling. The brain damage left Curtis’s heart failing and fighting for his life, and after beating the odds 3 times he stayed with us, and spent the following 7 months in a coma, miraculously he came through this. He was moved around several hospitals and organisations receiving nursing care and rehabilitation, learning to walk and talk again. He re-learnt to feed himself, carry out day to day duties with assistance but unfortunately remains doubly incontinent and suffers from short term memory loss. His family’s aim is to give Curtis the best life possible, recently he was allowed to return to his family home but requires 24 hour care and sessions from physio, speech and language therapy and Occupational therapy. He might not ever be the Curtis he was but he deserves the best possible care the world can offer him.
