    Story

Ionad Pobail Chill Dreasa/Kildress Community Hub
Ionad Pobail Chill Dreasa is the new, spectacular community hub building project at Gortacladdy led by our Wolfe Tones GAA Club. It will anchor and develop our community here more most of the rest of this century.

    The Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail was set up in the USA in 1921 and runs from Georgia to Maine, through a total of 14 States. The Ulster – Ireland Chapter of the Trail was set up here 90 years later and runs across Ulster, from Killybegs to Larne. It follows a spectacular route through Donegal, Tyrone, Derry and Antrim, running through the Blue Stack Mountains, the Sperrins, the Causeway Coast and the Glens of Antrim, truly from ‘sea to shining sea’.

    Kildress Meets the Appalachain Trail
As our first dedicated fund-raising event for Ionad Pobail Chill Dreasa, our own Barry Conway is dedicating ten days in February 2017 to trek the Ulster Appalachian Trail, taking this 200-mile route.

This is not ‘just a quiet 200 mile stroll’: it’s a trek over some very tough terrain – hills, mountains, forests, moorland and dirt-tracks. All of Barry’s costs are being very generously covered by Meteor Electrical...so every penny raised goes straight to Ionad Pobail Chill Dreasa.

    So, What Might You Do?
Our model here is very simple: Barry will do the trekking (though if anybody wants to join him, even for part of it, they’re more than welcome...but remember this can be a tough trek!) and the rest of us will do the supporting.

The main supporting will be through sponsorship. This can be at any level for each mile Barry covers (for example 1p per mile means £2 sponsorship) or at £20 for each of his daily Stages or £100 for the entire Trail. That means we’re looking for multiple sponsors. We’ll publicly acknowledge all Stage and Trail sponsors by name.
