The Guitar Social is a music school in London. It is independent, ran by one person, and has over the years brought music education to lots of people all across London. We work slightly differently from other schools. We put a real emphasis on grasping soft outcomes from music that can't be heard, or played, but can be felt; things like increased confidence, sense of involvement, participation, adventure...stuff like that. We achieve it by organising great social events that link and network our learners. We have the structure and the network to bring our unique brand of learning to people that will really benefit from it. We want to provide our fun classes to homeless people, people that are vulnerably housed, people seeking refuge, young people that can't afford good quality tuition. We want to do this because we believe that although music can't fix the problems of life, life is more durable with music in it.
We have one stumbling block. We're musicians. This means we don't have money. We need some cash to buy guitars, music stands, music books, hire venues for classes and for our homeless clients, put on food and drinks during sessions.
We have assembled lots of volunteers, we have charities waiting for us to confirm a date when we can arrive with our instruments, we just need a little financial boost.
