The fires in the Amazon are an ongoing and very tragic crisis affecting the planet. The Amazon is regarded as vital in the fight against global warming due to its ability to convert carbon dioxide into the oxygen we breath. When a tree burns all of the Co2 housed there is returned to the atmosphere! While there are naturally occurring forest fires during the dry season, this unprecedented growth is more likely caused by deforestation. There are many reasons this type of devastation can continually occur and why it is most commonly felt in vulnerable area by the most vulnerable people - the biggest being from both legal and illegal fires set intentionally to clear trees by loggers (for things like palm oil), or by farmers crop and grazing land. And the lack of awareness around climate change, with many with the power to make dramatic changes turn a blind eye to its existence through fear, ignorance or for profit.
