Story
The situation now in Sri Lanka is desperate for local people. Supplies of petrol and diesel have dried up, so practically all transport and commerce have stopped. LPG gas for cooking has also run out. Power cuts are worsening. Supplies of medication are failing and basic food – rice, bread, vegetables etc – though still available, are at sky-high prices… well beyond the reach of many. The result is grim for the poor.
At Rangala House, we are in a good position to offer help – at least for the villagers in our area (we are situated in the mountains above Kandy). While many ad hoc charitable organisations are also offering help, Food Banks as such are unknown here. We have set up a system to distribute food parcels to families in the surrounding villages who are now destitute. Each parcel contains rice, dhal, gram, dried fish, tinned foods and other essentials.
PLEASE, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

THE KANDYAN RESTAURANT, BRISTOL
2 years agoAs the money runs out we will face difficult decisions – for example, do we ensure that as many families as possible receive at least one pack, or do we give repeat supplies to the neediest, so others get nothing… The bitter truth is that there are far, far more in need than we can cope with. Line drawing is always difficult; the Grama Sevaka will be our guide. A message to donors: be assured that every pound that’s given goes directly to the buying of food packs. There are no hidden admin costs and all helpers are voluntary, not paid.

2 years agoAt the time of writing (2nd Aug), we have raised just over £3,300 through Just Giving. Sincere thanks to all donors! This sum will buy about 220 food packs. We have already ordered 100 packs, of which 20 or so have been distributed. We are hoping to reach villagers near to Rangala Road, up and down from Rangala House. This will include Bobebila, Lunugala & Makuldeniya (S), also Ellogola, Rangala, Cottaganga and Tangapor (N & NE). You can have a look on Google Maps if interested.
