As some of you may know I took up the position of Centre Manager at The Open Door Centre approximately 6 months. I share the charity's values of supporting people and intervening with mental health issues before they become more serious and more costly to treat. Mental health issues can have substantial consequences for people affected including friends and families. I too have substantial, personal experience of battling the illness OCD for most of my adult life. I find this experience beneficial in supporting others dealing with difficult times in their lives.

Andy Hackett and myself from the centre will be running the BTR Liverpool 10 Miler on Sunday 2nd April 2017 for the charity.

The Open Door Centre is a small mental health charity that fulfils a very important role in Wirral and Merseyside. We offer immediate support to young people and adults around low-moderate mental health issues such as: stress, low mood and anxiety. We offer a creative and informal environment for our members where they will be supported and not judged. Our staff base is predominantly made up of volunteers who give up their free time every week to help people. We offer a unique interpretation of a leading Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy programme at the centre as well as weekly music jamming sessions and meditation classes. We also work closely with local schools, colleges and companies.

As I'm sure you are aware, local public mental health services are extremely stretched and people have to wait long waiting times often of 6-12 months for therapy. We continuously want to be able to support people immediately but always require extra funding as the demand increases and we want to help as many people as possible.
