Weʼve raised £725 to help fund a new sporty wheelchair for Riley, which the NHS will not provide. This will allow Riley to access disabled sports.

    Story

Riley is now 10 years old and we are making a final desperate plea for help to get our disabled son the life-changing therapy that could help him become independent.

In the past generous friends and family of Riley, have come together to support Riley’s campaign to receive ground-breaking Cerebral Palsy treatment in the USA. Riley travelled to St Louis in Dec 2011 for an operation known as Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), which involved cutting some of the sensory nerve fibres that come from the muscles and enter the spinal cord.

Following the treatment Riley had 5 years of therapy ranging from intense weeks to regular weekly therapy, travelling all over the UK, Europe and America. This was meant to help develop his muscles and teach him how to walk unaided for the first time.

This therapy should have continued for up to two years following the operation, but in Riley's case we are 5 years down the line. Although Riley has made great progress he is still unable to walk unaided.

Riley currently gets around by using his wheelchair or K walker for short distances. Riley loves his sports especially football, but at present is unable to play. His current wheelchair is a basic NHS one. Although this is fine for Riley's carers to push him in, Riley struggles to propel himself. His physiotherapist has advised we look at getting Riley a new wheelchair. The new wheelchair will be lighter with smaller wheels easier to propel for Riley. This will enable Riley to join in on disability sports and to feel part of a team. However this is not available through the NHS.

Riley watches his siblings and peers playing sports, and often gets upset that he cannot play. Please help us in raising the funds needed so we may give Riley the opportunity of joining in.

Any extra funds raised will go towards private physio care for Riley and we are hoping to take him back to USA to see DR Park so we can best assess the next path to take for Riley.

    Thank You
