Thomas uses a wheelchair to get around. He has a great attitude to life and loves getting out and about in his wheels. We love getting out as a family but this can be challenging at times as uneven ground, grass, hills and gravel can make life very difficult for a wheelchair user, even a capable one like Thomas!

As Thomas is completely dependant on his wheelchair to get around we decided to fundraise for a hand cycle that would attach to any wheelchair to allow him to go off-road and use gears to keep up with his friends on their bikes and make it easier to get up hills with power assist when he needs it. With this hand cycle bike attachment for his wheelchair he'll finally be able to go places that he just couldn't go before, it will keep him fit and make it easier to get out and about with his friends.

Thomas has already overcome so many challenges in his young life to date and has a difficult year ahead following his recent spinal surgery but he doesn't let anything get him down and makes the most out of each day. When thinking about the physical challenges he faces I decided to set myself a few physical challenges starting with completing the Belfast City Marathon on 7 May. Last year I ran 17 miles of it and proudly ran the last 3 miles with my son pushing along beside me, he won't be able to join me this year following his surgery but he's an inspiration to me so I'm doing this for him!

This is the type of hand bike we would like to get for Thomas, it can mount to any wheelchair, allows him to go on and off-road, get up hills easier with gears and power assist if he needs it and maybe we can enjoy going out on our bikes together again :)
