Story
On the 15th of October I'll be running the Birmingham marathon with the aim of raising funds for Zanokhanyo Children's Safety Home, in Khayelitsha, South Africa.
The plight of the home was brought to my attention by my sister, who has decided to support the home in any way she can.
Zanokhanyo, meaning "bringing light", currently homes 19 children and is a safe and secure centre for orphaned and abandoned children in the underprivileged and underdeveloped township. The home was founded in 2005 by an incredible couple, Christophe and Nolu, who opened their hearts and homes to the struggling children, giving them the love they deserve alongside their own children. Sadly Christophe passed away and "Mama" Nolu is now the sole carer for her children.
Funds are being raised to improve the facilities within the home, increase the current monthly food budget of approximately £170 and to ensure all the educational requirements of the children are met.
All proceeds raised will go directly to assisting the home and bringing light to these children's lives.

Thank you.

7 years ago....I felt exhausted, painful, relieved, amazed and very happy to have completed the distance and to have beeen able to raise funds for the Nolu and her kids at the Zanokhanyo Safety Home. A huge thank you to everyone who supported me and made a donation to our cause. I know that every penny will make a big difference to the lives of the kids at Zanokhanyo and will also send a message of support to Nolu and everyone else who is involved in the home .

7 years agoI did it ! Shuffled over the line after 3 hours and 58 minutes. It was an amazing day with thousands of other runners, loads of them doing it for charity as well. The sun even came out for a while as we ran through some great landmarks and neighbourhoods where people lined the roads to support us and provide such a varied soundtrack to the run that only a city like Birmingham could offer, not to mention the kids handing out jelly babies and shouting out words of support.

7 years agoSorry for the complete lack of updates ! It's been a busy few weeks fitting in the training and getting more donations. I did my last long run on Sunday which almost ends the training as the last week is just shorter runs and rests. 2 more days to go now !! Some news from Zanokhanyo where the kids are starting to get ready to go back to school. Lots of important things to buy such as uniforms and books so your donations will very likely go towards some of these items. Here is a recent photo of Nolu and some of the children looking very happy !
