    Story

Keeping fit and exercising regularly is always prescribed first from by doctor, however, this can be difficult for those with limited mobility and disabilities, combined with restricted earning capacity and benefits system which seems to discourage the motivated and only provides the bear minimum financial support to help with the bills and rent. The obstacles presented in partaking in your favourite sport are huge, only to be aggravated by the limited finances; Hence, this decision to swallow my pride and look for help via JustGiving Crowdfunding.

My rusty old single-seater buggy (pictured) which was rescued from the scrap heap, finally gave up and burned out on the course the motor shattered and batteries shot, there ending our faithful partnership and my ride to freedom on the fairways. Specialist buggy medics have broken the bad news that 'Lazarus' as it was affectionately named, was beyond repair and condemned and laid to rest.  Herein lies the problem to which I turn to you for your help and support.

in 2014, my worsening Diabetes let to me being hospitalised from Oct - May 2015. Sparing you the uncomfortable detail, I was faced with a choice - eat healthy,go Tea-Total, lose the legs and wise up or die,  The visit from the grim reaper, who rattled my hospital bed post, gave me the inspiration I needed to make the choice to fight.  A nurse had said to me as I was being prepared for my 9th and potentially terminal surgery " I'm sorry, but you'll never hit a golf ball again, don’t get your hopes up! " This was like a 'Red rag to a bull'.  The following recovery was hard and painful. My friends at Manchester Prosthetics Centre,in Wythenshaw designed a pair of prosthetic legs tailored for the game of Golf, enabling me to learn to play again. My determination came good and I hit a ball again unaided before the end of summer 2015, and have evolved and adapted ever since. Those who know me and who've been there for me will testify to my dogged resolve and refusal to give in and accept failure.

The Professional and kind members at Denton Golf Club and Houldsworth Golf club helped me to develop a modified swing, manage the obstacles on the course and leant me the patience and steadying hand I needed to get where I am today. I am regularly complimented on my determination and strike fear into other amateur golfers who are not sure about getting beat by a guy with no legs! The future frightens me to the core, when the day will come where my disability finally beats me and I have to quit the game.

The ominous prospect of eventually becoming wheelchair-bound is one day an inevitability, only to be hastened by giving in and choosing the easy alternative of becoming an 'Armchair-Golfer'. I'm not ready for that yet.

I understand that being able to play golf is not essential, but to me it is critical to preserve my mobility, mindfulness, fitness and most importantly, it drives me to become both a better golfer and active healthy individual.

The course/club carts at my local course Mersey Valley Golf Club (in conditions when they are permitted on the course) are not really suitable for me, as the energy I expel mounting and alighting the cart exhausts me, whereas a ‘single-seater’, I can complete 18 holes, albeit I'll be shattered. However, the following day, I may still be tired and tender on my stumps, The second day following a game, I feel like I'm walking on air and bounding with energy. Its clear I must keep playing in order to maintain the level of fitness and mobility I currently have.. A view shared many professionals.

I am looking for some help to find a way to buy a decent, second-hand ‘single-seater’ Electric Scooter similar to the one pictured , so I'm resorting to crowd funding as the last six months attempts at raising funds in other ways have been completely unsuccessful. Our limited finances, governed by the Universal Credit, lease just enough to pay the bills. There's nothing left to save at the end of the month.

Any donation, no matter how small will be graciously received. Thank you

Here are a few videos which inspire me, firstly, my friend Terry

Revised Target. Ive revised my target to fund a Disabled Adapted Mobility Scooter based on Second-hand buggys which occasionally appear on eBay. This seems a more realistic goal to get me going again. Neil

Things are looking well, and a massive Thank you for the kind donations so far. I'm overwhelmed at the positive comments I've received. Off to call in some local courses around Warrington. I'm looking for a supporting club to host a facility, specifically aimed at encouraging Golf for the Disabled. Watch this space.....

My revised target is based on a good second hand 'Adapted Mobility Scooter' I lost my legs to Diabetes in 2015 and Golf has saved me. I worked hard to learn to walk again and to swing a club It's been instrumental in my rehabilitation It keeps me focused, fit health and mobile
