Story
This is Tyrion he is currently 11 weeks old he has Portosystemic Shunt leading to Hepatic Encephalopathy and this is our story...
When Tyrion had his first lot of jabs at 8 weeks old I was told by the vet he was blind which is why he was sooo unsettled and whimpering alot at our appointment, I didnt believe what I was being told as he plays fine at home and I put his behaviour down to it being his first time out of the house. fastforward to last week Tyrion had a turn for the worse where he seemed very disorientated, foaming at the mouth, he couldnt stand properly and was also pacing around the walls bumping into everything on the way round. My friend (lauren) who knows alot more about dogs than me and my partner came round and advised us to take him to an emergency vet asap which we did and were told again by this new vets that Tyrion was again blind and had to have some bloods done which came back low red blood cell count and proteins. we were asked to go back the next day for another check up. Tyrion was then booked in for more bloods which he had to fast for 12 hours and had bloods taken then had to be fed a special diet and have more bloods taken..... after a few days the results came back... we were told he has a Portosystemic Shunt in his liver which is leaking toxins into his blood stream leading to Hepatic Encephalopathy causing temporary spells of blindness and also his funny turn a few days before. He is now on special hepatic food for the liver and anti-biotics until we can afford to go see a specialist to see if Tyrions Portosystemic Shunt is internal or external, if internal there will be nothing more the vets can do for him and he wont live a very long life and if external Tyrion will need an operation. We couldnt get insurance to cover Tyrion as his symptoms showed up within the first few days of getting him. Tyrions treatment is around £4000. Anything you can give will be very muchly appreciated
UPDATE: Yesterday Tyrion had a repeat BAST test, Liver function test and also Full bloods done. Today we got his results back and he is still low on all protein levels, red blood count aswell as having high bile levels, hes been on a special diet since being diagnosed end of last year to see if any of these levels improved Sadly they confirm that his liver is not working as it should and still needs scans to see the extent of the damage. 😢😔
