Story
Hi im Scot aka 'The Blueligt Turner' Ive been woodturning nearly 3 years, and now i want to use my hobby to help make a seven-year-old girl smile again.
Lily is the Seven year old granddaughter of one of my best friends, who has multiple disabilities. Lily was Born 11 weeks premature and diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 3 weeks old, at 9 months old she was diagnosed with infantile spasms, which has caused Lily to lose most of her development including being able to roll, eat and swallow and head control, and if that wasn’t enough, she was also diagnosed with epilepsy and reflux. At 2 years old Lily then had to have her right kidney removed because of a large non-cancerous tumour and just recently has been diagnosed with significant sight loss making the world a more difficult place to communicate in. Lily must live life, using her wheelchair and being tube feed. Last year after lots of battles Lily started school at Chailey Heritage, which aims to give disabled children and young people every opportunity to pursue their fullest potential and In the summer holidays Lily was kindly loaned an ‘Upsee’, an upright mobility device designed to allow children with movement delays to stand and move with the help of an adult, seeing the video of lily standing with her dad, was a fantastic sight and emotional for so many people, including ‘Grumps’ (my best mate)
Although a mobility aid, it is not funded by local authority and has to be purchased by individual families, That’s where Im trying to Help. Im hoping to raise enough money to buy Lily an ‘Upsee’, which will be of great benefit to her, with a diagnosis of acute behavioural insomnia, keeping Lily active is really important to try and maintain some sort of sleep pattern, which help reduce the amount of sedatives that Lily currently requires. It will also be great to see that smile on her little face again to.
