Story

SCAMMED OUT OF £2300! Most of our membership payments stolen.

VoiceWorx Community Choir is a group of all ages that has been singing on Monday nights, and performing in the community for over 11 years.

Last year we decided to set up a West Country Choir Festival. As we began to get plans and a new website in place we were the target of scammers who took £2300 from our account. Can you help us recover from this distressing theft...?

"CAN YOU SEND US A TENOR AND A TENNER TOO PLEASE?"

The huge increase in popularity of singing in recent years has resulted in the resurrection of many community choirs across the country, but many of them are crying out for men to sing the tenor and bass lines.

But, the Voiceworx Community Choir based in Kentisbeare, Mid Devon, is not only welcoming new Tenors but also crying out for donations of a 'Tenner' to help ensure the choir's future after it lost over £2,300 recently to an email scam which cleaned out their advance membership fees at a stroke.

The choir members have all rallied round in organising their very first 'Community Choirs Festival' called 'Choirworx' to help build up their cash reserves again and which also aims to help other local charities.

But the 'Choirworx' one-day workshop event this coming Sunday (5th May), which will be attended by people from different choirs around the South West as well as individual singers, is not expected to make quite as much money as was hoped in its first year, mainly due to the Scam which then delayed marketing and their new website launch.

The 'Choirworx' festival's set-up costs were intended to be covered by Voiceworx's membership fee reserves, but that money was stolen by the fraudsters, sadly leaving the choir facing a big shortfall.

Despite the matter being reported to the Police and the Banks, only £85.00 has been returned so far to Voiceworx, and no more money is expected to be recovered sadly.

The Scammer's actions are particularly cruel as it's been against a local choir that has raised thousands of pounds for local charities over the last 11 years.

Voiceworx Chair Barbara Wood comments: "Public donations of a tenner, or whatever people wish to donate to us to help us recover from this dreadful scam and cover our Festival costs would be greatly appreciated, and we would always welcome a few more Tenors or Basses!

"All of the money raised will go to help support Voiceworx in their efforts to cover costs this term after having lost all of our reserves from future membership fees to the scammers.

"Many thanks in advance for any cash support people feel able to give us at our Just Giving Account at: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/voiceworx
