On 3rd August last year, my family and I were walking the Welsh mountain 'Cadir Idris' when my sister (Leah) had a fall on the way down, tearing a ligament in her ankle. There was no way to get down safely, as the mountain is very technical and more injuries would have followed had we tried. Thankfully a call to 999 for Aberdyfi Search and Rescue meant a huge team of incredible trained volunteers were already helping Leah down within 45 minutes!

They all took great care of Leah and ensured her safety at all times, getting her off the mountain and heading to hospital within 2 and a half hours and before the sun had gone down too!

Leah has since recovered and to pay back the incredible volunteers, she worked tirelessly to organise a 28km walk from her town (Backwell) all the way to Weston-Super-Mare pier, in what was dubbed "Walk-to-Weston".

On 20th May a brave group of children aged 11-13 took on the Walk-to-Weston challenge and everyone made it to the pier successfully! The children showed extreme grit and determination to push through blisters, tiredness, stinging nettles and the hot sunshine. It was a day full of adventure where the group experienced a cow stampede, a hat in a river, a honking train, a huge celebration, a tooth falling out and even a jump in the sea at the end! These kids worked so hard to raise money and push their bodies to the limits!

Please give what you can for such an unbelievable group (Aberdyfi Search and Rescue) who showed the best teamwork, communication and care I have ever seen and also to encourage the fantastic children who are challenging themselves in May to walk a huge distance for the cause!
