Our grandad is 90 years old, he unfortunately has lost his wife and two children over the years so his care and health come down to us, his grandchildren. We are a very close family and love him dearly, he has looked after us his entire life. Oct last year he had a fall which resulted in him being in hospital over the Xmas period and then being placed in a care home on the hospital site.

This is 40 minutes away from us and not a permanent solution. The social services have given us information on the nursing homes near us both of which have a surplus amount of £5200 per year for our grandad to be placed there. All of us have young families and are not in a position to pay the extra. The alternative is that they can place him wherever they choose. They take all of his pension towards costs and leave him with just shy of £20 to himself.

It breaks our heart to not be able to pay this. He has another great grandchild on the way and I truly feel that if he is not near his family he will give up.

He is a proud man who has always helped others, I'm just hoping we can achieve helping him too.
