A family support project for children who have developmental disabilities (associated with the Isuubi Medical Foundation registered charity no. 1155114).

We are a group of special needs educational and therapy staff raising funds for our third year working with the children with additional needs and their families in Busu, Uganda.

Every penny raised goes directly to the charity, volunteer travel and expenses is self-funded.

In 2015, we first visited an incredible community in a rural village near Iganga, Uganda; one where, sadly, some families were hiding their special children through shame. Through conversations and home visits, it became clear that they longed for support, information and acceptance.

We have provided this, building a community centre, from which a local team run weekly sessions (physiotherapy, communication, sensory), as well as an established parent support group and sign language workshops. We are able to provide information, resources and training for the local team, meaning that the sessions run all year.

We help to provide children with the specialist equipment they need, from wheelchairs to standing frames. We are also able to provide specialist advice during home visits.

This year, with your help, we aim to build an outdoor sensory and physiotherapy play area and to run sensory and communication workshops. We aim to extend the services we provide, making links with physiotherapists working in Uganda.

Money raised will be used for materials for this, plus urgently needed maintenance on the building to protect it from the environment. and to run sensory and communication workshops.
