Angela and Richard Cussell are two amateur cyclists and are members of Wells Rotary Club.

Angela and some of her walking friends had a slightly mad idea that it would be a good idea to undertake a charity bike ride in aid of two Rotary sponsored charitable causes one locally and one internationally (Defibrillators in Wells and Reaching The Unreached about which later). Angela and her friends have come up with the idea to

"cycle from Wells Cathedral to Notre Dame Cathedral"

over five days of the Whitsun holiday in May 2018.

Fifteen amateur cyclists of varying ages and decrepitude have agreed to undertake this task. We commence on Thursday 24th May with the troublesome task of getting out of Wells and heading for Salisbury. The following day we head for Portsmouth and take the ferry across to France. Three further days of hard cycling (for those that do not tend to cycle) should see us arrive in Paris.

Will you please help us raise funds for Wells Rotary Club in Connection with these two worthwhile projects: -

    A) Defibrillators in Wells

We wish to get as many defibrillators in Wells as we can. In addition to providing the machinery at both ends of the City the club will also encourage commercial enterprises to purchase machines for public use. The club will purchase machines to be sited hopefully in the Market place and the main car parks, we will undertake publicity training and maintenance of the Defibrillators as knowledge of how to use them saves lives.

    B) Reaching the Unreached

The charity provides a loving and safe home for children in the south Tamil Nadu Region of India offering safety nutrition and education. Each child is supported until he or she is independent. Primary education is provided and higher education is paid for. The charity has produced at least two Doctors and a multitude of nurses and technicians and other professionals. It also provides vocational training in textiles, building skills and other vocational subjects.

A number of Wells Rotarians have visited the centre and at least one has been out to give hands on educational support. There are several girls’ hostels on the complex but the charity is short of accommodation for the boys who are currently sent to government schools. Funds are being specifically raised to provide a boys hostel on the charity's campus, the cost is £40K but the saving to the charity would see a two-year payback.

Our Cycle Team Are: - Angela & Richard Cussell , Fiona & Jeff Bevan, Frances Folkard , Annie Dalwood , Suzanne Hopwood, Caroline & Colin Eason , June and Stewart Cursley , Mark Haynes , Iain Irvine , Berit Lindholm & Ian Greenshields , John & Rachel Lover

WELLS TO SALISBURY We set of from Wells just after 9am with the wind in our faces and lots of hills to climb (Richard overtook someone on a hill!), the journey presented the odd problem along the way with chains coming off while cycling up Bath hill and gears breaking causing one cyclist to return home and change bikes. We pushed on through the afternoon rain and arrived in Salisbury soaked but in good spirits. Thank you for the great send off and again for all the sponsorship we have received.
