On Saturday evening we decided to drive to our favourite woods. Pippa loves it there, she always comes back with the biggest smile on her face. This evening was a different, when she came back in the very slowly walk as if she was about to faint and covered in blood. I picked her up only to find she had a 5cm long, deep cut into her chest, right between her front legs. I got to the car as soon as I could, dialled emergency vet and drove there. I kept touching my Pip to make sure she was still with us. Terrifying. My heart was in my throat, but I tried to be as brave as possible for she could feel at ease.

At the vets, they have informed me she was in a bad way, and didn’t know if she’d make it. What a dreadful time.... waiting. After further intervention they discovered there is air in the chest, wondered if the lung is punctured. The air was drained, chest x-rayed again. Good news is thar no more air went inside her chest cavity, which hopefully means her lungs are entire.

As the hole in her chest is deep and ribs are broken she is having specialist reconstruction operation at the Royal Veterinary Clinic in Potters Bar.

Up until May we had insurance, but due to change of circumstances I withheld it. And this happened! What a mistake to make.

My Pip will be operated tonight (Sunday night). I just want her all better. Poor darling I let her down.
