We are Wigan veterans and we are a unique veterans gruop that help all our ex-servicemen/woman in the community who have suffered or are suffering with issues around substance misuse and addiction.
We have all served our country one time in our lives and are trying to move forward and better ourselves in life.
There is 15-20 of us that meet up every week and hold a group meeting to discuss any issues that we have and will try to solve them together.
We are growing each week in numbers and together we have become a strong and supportive group of veterans.
We have found that alot of our veterans are too proud to ask for help with their issues with alcohol or drugs, so it is important for us to provide a caring and safe place for them all to open up.
Veterans find it hard too talk to other people who have not served so it is important that we can keep the group growing all the time.
We are always looking at doing other indoor/outdoor activities to create confidence and team building to raise their self-esteem.
We are looking at doing sponsored events to be able to achieve this to raise funds to keep the enthusiasm and morale up in the group.
I care about this very much because i myself has been were all of our veterans have been with my substance misuse and have been help through my issues. So i feel i have to give them something back and help them aswell.
