Story
In William's words:
"So as you all know in April I had a devastating car crash which amongst other things has left me with severe brain damage. Now despite the NHS being wonderful so far in treating me, saving my life on more than one occasion, my badly needed psychology treatment has come to a premature end.
Holly has set up a trust and bank account so that we can raise money that will pay for cognitive neuro-psychology privately, via the wonderful Dr Richard Maddicks at Psychology Chartered.
So what will we all do to raise money? GET ON OUR BIKES or in this case our two exercise bikes in my mum's living room on 18 February, and ride between us the 225 miles that I travelled between hospitals after the accident between us (from Southampton Neuro ICU, to Taunton ICU at Musgrove Park to the Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit in Bristol).
Everyone that partakes will pick an amount that they are capable of riding (I'm going to do 5 miles myself) and each participant will generate as much sponsorship as they possibly can themselves."
Holly continues: My brother is a 26 year old teacher with his whole life ahead of him. In April 2016, he spent 2 weeks on the edge of life in a coma; he has relearned to walk and talk. Through sheer grit and determination he is coming back to us more every day. His brilliant blog demonstrates: https://mybraininjuryrecoveryblog.wordpress.com/. He is loved by every person that he meets. The outpouring of grief and support since his accident has been overwhelming. Can I ask that we all dig deep and get William the therapy that he so badly needs so that he is able to return to work and do what is he so determined to do: pay back to the society that saved him. He has received no compensation or other funding, as his crash was simply that - a terrible accident that could happen to any of us. Please give generously. THANK YOU.

8 years agoHi guys! The most enourmous THANK YOU to everyone that has donated a single penny to this fund. It has 10 days to go so if you or anyone you know is yet to donate, please don't hold back! We are using William Lucas' funds to pay for psychotherapy, counseling, music therapy, accupuncture, 1:1 gym sessions....The list goes on. It is making a real, tangible and enourmous difference beyond anything you can imagine. The proof being that he has gone away to Spain this weekend with Dad, Hugo Mieville. What an achievement 1 year after his coma.

8 years agoThis is a message from Will: "Can I please just thank you wholeheartedly for every single bit of support and every penny that has been given. It has made a real difference to my recovery, before we have even spent a penny. The morale boost of your messages and support has made the world of difference. I am incredibly lucky to know any of you. The big ride was today, and we have raised just over £9300 in total, with many more funds still to come in. Thank you. Will."
