    Story

We believe that no one living in our community should be at risk of being alone or hungry on Christmas day. That's why, for the third year running, we are organising a lunch on Christmas day for 100 local people.

Last year our guests were affected by issues such as homelessness, severe poverty, caring for a relative, disability and isolation. Being able to relieve the stress, pressure and expectation of Christmas and providing festive cheer made a huge difference to the people we supported:

"You saved Christmas for our family. Really we have been eating beans and porridge for the last week. Until you came round on Christmas Eve we had no food and no presents for the kids. This is the best Christmas we have had and the best meal we have had in weeks. Thanks so much with the food parcel we should last now until January when we have been promised our money will finally be sorted. You all have given us hope."

It's only one day but Christmas can be really, really difficult. One of the ladies who attended described that poignantly with a letter we received after last years meal:

I'm used to being alone. It does get to me sometimes and Christmas is not a happy time for me. Everyone will ask what I am doing and I  am to  proud to say nothing, I will not be a burden. I have  been so lonely since my  husband died. I made a friend and we talk on the phone, we have met for tea. It's been years since I had a friend. Please do not underestimate how much this has changed my life...

That's why we do this. We are only a small group of people but we have seen the huge difference this event can make. However, we can't do it without help  -  we rely on the kindness and generosity of our friends and  supporters  to make this all possible.

Please...will you help us to make this magical Christmas day possible?
