Story
We are students from University of Bath trying to raise money to purchase a lifting device to assist the older people living in Walcot Court after a fall.
The lifting device called Raizer is a battery operated mobile lifting chair that helps a fallen person up to an almost standing position within a few minutes. You can see pictures of Raizer below.
Walcot Court in Bath is part of Methodist Housing Association(MHA) which provides housing care and support services for older people. It also aims to raise people’s awareness of caring for the elderly. You can find more about MHA here: http://www.mha.org.uk
Elderly people are at increased risk of falls, and without a lifting device Walcot Court has to rely on calling the emergency services entailing a very stressful wait for the tenant of up to 4 hours. Although the device cost can be supported by the tenants Amenity Fund, there is still a gap of at least £1000.
The tenants living in Walcot Court are mostly in their 80s’. Some of them have Dementia requiring care while others have poor mobility and require special professional care. Walcot Court always tries its best to manage resources and create better living conditions for tenants. This lifting device can be operated by only one person so it can be very useful for a single care assistant to help a fallen tenant.
If you are willing to help the elderly but do not have enough time to meet them. Please donate a little money to Walcot Court. The charity takes social responsibility to improve the life quality for older people by providing an excellent standard of person-centred care. Your donation will all be used to purchase the lifting device and support Walcot Court improving their services. Your help is important for us and will be highly appreciated.
