In the summer of 2017 I have been fortunate enough to be selected to go on a two and a half week trip to Mexico to take part in a volunteering programme. This programme, called LaSERIO, is run by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts with the aim of joining together with girl guides from around the world to make a difference in impoverished areas. This years trip will take us to a place called Our Cabana, near the city of Cuernavaca in Mexico. Exact details of the work we are doing have not been finalised yet, but we will be taking part in community service projects where our experience as guides can help us to make a real difference to people less fortunate than ourselves.

In the past LaSERIO projects like this have helped in numerous ways in areas like water sanitisation projects and assisting with local charities to rebuild schools and healthcare centres. There has been talk at our initial meetings of assisting with teaching or in a local orphanage. At the end of the project we will have a short period to visit various locations like Mexico city to immerse ourselves in and understand a different culture.

I need to raise approximately £3000 to fund this trip, as well as any additional costs such as innoculations and spending money. In addition to seeking fundraising, I am trying to finance as much of it as I can myself by working at the weekends as a lifeguard and cleaning as many cars as I can!
