Zomba TREEZ is small not-for profit organisation established in 2016 in response to the extensive deforestation occuring on Zomba Forest Plateau. The Zomba-Malosa reserve is one of the oldest designated reserves in Malawi, and an area of oustanding natural beauty in southern Malawi. Over the past decade over 30% of it's area has been subject to environmental degradation and deofrestation. This rate has dramatically increased in the past year, due to forest fires, population growth, land encroachment and unlicensed chopping of trees for charcoal and firewood and climate change. Deforestation has led to siltation of the water reserves, which serves the local population of over 500,000. Seven important rivers originate from Zomba Forest Pleateau, supplying surrounding areas. This year has seen severe drought in many areas, in part due to siltation.

Zomba TREEZ is trying to raise awareness and funds to plant trees that are vital to supporting the ecosystem. This is particularly important around water courses, to prevent siltation.

Zomba TREEZ works locally to engage with the local community, employ local villagers to plant trees, encourage conservation, support the development of food forests and other sustainable income generating activities focussing on conservation activities.

We urgently need money to plant enough trees this year to prevent further catastrophic environmental degradation, as this year has seen unprecedented destruction. We are now in the planting season - every penny counts towards planting another tree!
