Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life. www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and taking a look at my boys who are supposed to be encouraging me.

Cystic Fibrosis is the UK's most common life-threatening, inherited disease and affects more than 7500 babies, children and young adults. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects a number of organs in the body (especially the lungs and pancreas) by clogging them with thick, sticky mucus.

At present there is no cure for CF, but the faulty gene has been identified and doctors and scientists are working to find ways of repairing or replacing it. One of the main objectives of the CF Trust is to fund this work.

People with CF are living longer than ever before. Until the 1930s, the life expectancy of a baby with CF was only a few months. Today the average life expectancy for someone with CF is around 31 years.

My own sister, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis in 2003. She has had to stop work indefinitely, and faces a daily uphill battle with this life-changing disease. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cystic Fibrosis Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support. Matthew
