Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Fay is a special young girl who has CMN, Congenital Melanocytic Naevus which is a brown disfiguring and potentially life-threatening birthmark covering over 70% of her body with hundreds of smaller CMN all over.
She is 10 years old and is a happy confident girl thanks to the support her and her family receive from Caring Matters Now. Caring Matters Now is a small UK charity dedicated to supporting those affected by this rare condition. In addition they also raise funds for research at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
CMN are brown/black moles present at birth, covering up to 80% of the body. Large or multiple CMN are untreatable and carry an increased risk of malignant melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer. CMN syndrome is the association of these moles with brain and spinal problems, such as tumours, fluid on the brain, fits and developmental problems and/or characteristic facial features. Melanoma is this condition is at highest risk during childhood and although melanoma is always an aggressive tumour, in children with CMN is it particularly aggressive and resistant to treatments. All cases of melanoma in CMN seen to date have proven fatal.
