Cycle for Bryan · 19 February 2017
Introduction: During a second tour of duty in Afghanistan on 9th June 2012 L/Cpl Bryan Phillip, Irish Guards, was badly
injured as a result of an encounter with an Improvised Explosive Device, (IED).
Bryan’s injuries were such that both legs were amputated above the knee. He has
since shown amazing courage and self- believe and has worked hard to return to
as normal a life style as possible. To this end, Bryan has funded, at his own
expense, a pioneering operation which was carried out successfully in
Australia. The result of this operation has been life- enhancing for Bryan. The
operation’s cost, however, was immense and to help Bryan recover some of his
outlay members of the Ulster Branch intend to cycle from Mizen Head to Malin
Head aided by serving Irish Guardsmen, members of the Republic of Ireland
Branch and members of the UN veterans. Distance Approximately 360 Miles. Fund
raising will be by means of sponsorship for those attempting the task and with
support from various Branches of the Irish Guards Association. which is greatly
needed. Bryan Phillips also intends to join us along the way by showing his determination on his hand bike.
