Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. So why am I raising funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust? As you will all be aware my 3 year old daughter Morven was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth. Cystic Fibrosis is the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease and affects over 8,000 people in the UK. CF affects the internal organs especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus making it hard to breathe and digest food. Each week, five babies are born with CF and sadly each week three young people lose their lives. At this time average life expectancy is 38 years.
In the continued effort to raise funds I have been joined by my colleague Andrew Sykes and father in law Graeme Nicol in participating in the 28th Highland Cross on Saturday 19th June. The event involves a 50 mile race across the Highlands from Kintail to Beauly; the first 20 miles on foot (Andrew plans to run it !!) followed by a 30 mile cycle.
A large proportion of the CF Trusts funding goes to the Gene Therapy Consortium who have been working on a gene therapy product that will prevent the lung damage that kills 90% of people with CF. The product following a pilot study in 2009 is due to go to a major clinical trial, however like all such research this involves considerable funding.
Any sponsorship you can give us will go to a very worthwhile cause where some feel that an effective treatment is within touching distance. With your help hopefully one day soon, we can see off CF !!
Many thanks,
Jason
