Cyclone Idai Charity Run

Cyclone Idai has swept through Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, leaving behind a trail of destruction, killing hundreds of people and affecting an estimated 2.6 million people [Cyclone Idai Appeal, April 2019, www.dec.org.uk/appeal/cyclone-idai-appeal ].
So, I will participating in a half marathon run during the SIMPLYHEALTH GREAT BIRMINGHAM RUN (13.10.2019) to raise funds for the DEC Cyclone Idai Appeal. As part of this fund raising I ran the10 mile run during the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend on the 4th of May [ https://midsussexmarathon.co.uk/2019/05/04/sydney-runs-to-raise-money-for-dec-cyclone-idai-appeal/].
While the cyclone idai's devastation took its toll, I called home in Chipinge, Zimbabwe, to find out if my mother’s brothers were safe as they live further to the east of the town , it was somewhat relief to speak to one of them and hear that they were fine. However, their cousin Jonah Mashava (a headmaster at a school where more than 30 students are missing) was flooded out of his house, tried to climb a tree but did not make it and remains missing [ https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/03/frustration-mounts-mozambique-food-water-shortage-190322090702776.html].
In remembrance of all those who died and to help raise funds for those affected (left homeless, orphaned, many bridges, schools, shopping facilities and roads destroyed e.t.c ) I participated in the first leg of the Mid Sussex Marathon Weekend 2019 (10 Mile run) on the 4th of May and will be running the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham run on the 13th of October 2019.
