Story

Dialog employees and volunteers from the BeHoCa Foundation will join forces and participate in the Dam tot Dam Run to raise money for the BeHoCa Foundation.

BeHoCa Foundation:

On a holiday to Kenya almost 2 years ago I met the Dutch Melissa Kreps whom established the BeHoCa Foundation in May 2012, BeHoCa stands for Believe, Hope and Care. The first project of the Foundation is a home for street boys in Mombasa which is achieved in June 2013 and which I visited several times, as I also visited other Childrens homes. 2 Months after this holiday, I went back to Mombasa to work as a volunteer in the home and I lived in Mombasa for a total of 4 months. Nowadays I am still involved in the Foundation and at the boys who live in the home. And hope to go back even this year!

More than 250,000 children roam around in the streets of Kenya, 90% of these children are boys. Aimless and without a future, these children need help because no child belongs on the streets. Often they are forced to leave their family and home or the street has more to offer than the situation at home where they have to deal with poverty, neglect and/or violence and sexual abuse.

Melissa took some boys from the street and offered them a home where they can stay until they are old and are skilled enough to be able to live independently. In the most ideal cases they can get back to their parents or close family with the support of BeHoCa. The boys are accompanied by Melissa and social workers so that they get the right support.

Her aim is to support as much as boys possible, and give them a home and future perspective. Currently there are 9 boys between the ages of 8 to 17 living at the home. They go to school, help in the kitchen and the garden and are taking care of the animals of the home. They are working hard towards a bright future as educated and independent adults. The Foundation exists of gifts, donations and the sale of articles made in Kenya and/or by the boys, but would like to be self-sufficient in the future.

For more information about the home and the the boys you can email me or check out the website or Facebook page.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart and an "Asante Sana" (thanks a lot in Swahili) from the boys!

With best regards,

"Auntie" Mariska
