Clipper 07/08 Round the World Race · 21 September 2007

The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust inspires young people aged 8-24 to believe in a brighter future living through and beyond cancer. For many young people simply picking up where they left off before their diagnosis just isn’t possible. So, when treatment ends the Trust’s work begins.

Story

On the 16th September Ellen MacArthur Trust Ambassador Dan Monk set sail from Liverpool for the start of the 35,000-mile Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race. Dan has been supported by The Phillip Green Memorial Trust and JPMorgan Asset Management

Dan who has been sailing with The Trust since 2003, has survived two bouts of leukeamia since his first diagnosis in 2001. Throughout his treatment Dan focused on sailing, soon finding a real passion for the sport. As well as joining the four-day sailing trips run by The Trust, Dan soon became involved in various races and regatta such as the JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race and Skandia Cowes Week.  It was clear that he wanted to take his sailing seriously so with the support of The Trust he took on the Professional Yachtmaster course, successfully qualifying May 2007.

Dan is raising money for the Phillip Green Memorial Trust
who are a charitable organization which helps sick and disabled children all over the UK and overseas and without who Dan's voyage would not have been possible and The Ellen MacArthur Trust for whom he is an ambassador.

50% OF YOUR DONATION WILL GO THE PHILLIP GREEN MEMORIAL TRUST AND 50% TO THE ELLEN MACARTHUR TRUST

Dan is hoping to raise 25p for every mile sailed.
