I would really like you to watch The Children’s Burns Foundation short film by clicking on the ‘Video’ link on the left of this page, and whilst doing so think about the devastating effect burns can have on a child. If you feel the charity is a worthwhile cause please donate £2 or more and pass this link on to all your contacts.
I have been a Firefighter with Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service since 1985. I became involved with Burns charities in 1998. I initially became involved as a volunteer because I was severely burned myself when I was two years old and spent many months in hospital. Treatment for my burn injuries continued through out my childhood, I even had to have further surgery only a few years ago.
Through Burns Camps I have worked with many children who are struggling to come to terms with their own burn injuries. My personal experience of living with burn injuries enables me to encourage the children and show them that it is possible for them to go on to achieve their goals in life just like I did by becoming a Firefighter.
