Story
As there are some who maybe did not believe I could do it! We are keeping the site open for a while to be available to latecomers. In the just two weeks it was open before the ride the donations received put the site into the top 1% of 800000 Just giving sites for April. I would once again like to thank all those who have and might soon support this really important charity.
Well as you can see I made it but only because of the fantastic support I received not just for my effort but far more importantly for the help you have all given through me to the poor poor people of Nepal. I would also like to thank all of those who I know prayed for me. Their prayers were answered for the most part with a following wind very gratefully received! Thanks also to the anonymous dear sweet person who thoughtfully silently put a bunch of beautiful tulips on our doorstep to find as I was leaving, Margaret who supported me all through and kicked me out of the house to do some training! and my daughter Caroline who rode the last 35 miles with me, took a lot of the photos and kept in touch with the reception group and finally thank you to Bobbie and Richard Ennals representing Tearfund the DEC Charity. Sorry I did not wear the tee shirt but for long distance rides the rear pockets in a racing vest are essential but I will wear the tee shirt! I must also not forget my two lovely Grand daughters Charlotte and Florence for making the lovely Finish banner. It was a very welcome sight!
The story
78 Year old David Hutchins a resident of Somerset UK on Saturday 9th May cycled 120 miles, only stopping for refreshments solo with no backup until 35 miles from the finish accompanied by his daughter Caroline also a cyclist, from his home to Windsor in Berkshire in aid of the Appeal Fund for the dreadful disaster in Nepal.
David is an experienced cyclist so he knows what he is doing but nevertheless this was quite an endurance feat even for a young person but David will made it and with your help which made the ride worth while.
The disaster is as we have all seen on the television, absolutely horrific with bad news coming with each broadcast.
Many of those who have survived are without homes, they need tents, rainware, food, clean water, medical treatment and drugs and equipment, survivors will be grieving the loss of family and friends, they will need counselling and other assistance. With this year's monsoon only weeks away, decent shelter, dry clothes and rain ware are desperately needed. What each of us can do either individually or collectively will be the difference between life or death to some. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world with some of the loveliest people.
Why David did this ride is because he has been involved with schools in Nepal for some 15
years with many friends there and contact with over 28000 school children.
The slogan ‘Together we can! is the
slogan of a Nepalese organisation David is connected with. How appropriate
today!
Please support David on his ride!
