In May this year, three friends and I are challenging ourselves to cycle, un-supported, from John O'Groats to Lands End in two weeks. During the trip we will also be climbing the three peaks, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. We will be averaging nearly 100 miles a day on the bike, potentialy cycling over 8 hours a day.

I am hoping to raise money in aid of Anthony Nolan - a blood cancer and bone marrow transplant charity. Every 23 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer.  I have chosen this charity as I really believe that any money raised can make a huge difference in treating those with diseases such a Leukemia and increasing awareness of life-saving bone marrow transplants. Every additional person to sign up to the transplant register is another chance to potentially save a life. 

Anthony Nolan are a UK based charity who undertake world class research into stem cell matching to increase the effectiveness of transplants. To quote from their website, this is what your money could contribute towards:

"£700 is the average cost of the specialist equipment, materials and staff to transport cord blood donations to our Cord Blood Bank in Nottingham.

£500 is the average cost of testing and storing a cord blood unit to provide a potentially lifesaving transplant.

£100 is the cost of recruiting, tissue typing and maintaining a new potential donor on the Anthony Nolan register.

£17 is the cost of a special box used for transporting donated stem cells from a donor to a patient for a potentially lifesaving transplant.

£7 is the cost of the ‘spit kit’ used for taking a potential donor’s saliva sample for tissue-typing – the first stage of joining the Anthony Nolan register."
