The Ichthyosis Support Group were founded by volunteers 15 years ago to help support families and individuals who have such severe disfiguring skin disease. Some children with severe ichthyosis do not even survive to school age. I  am currently chair of the ISG medical advisory board and have watched the charity slowly grow to the extent they can now provide small scientific grants to aid medical research. The genes for these rare conditions have all been discovered in the last 20 years and this gives the first real hope for a cure in the future.
