Lymington To London And Back 200 Mile Challenge · 26 May 2009

Oakhaven Hospice supports people in our New Forest, Waterside and Totton communities who are facing end of life. We provide support to manage peoples physical, emotional and spiritual needs. With your donation we can really make every moment matter for those who need us most.

Story

Well, we did it!

On the weekend of the 20th and 21st June, myself and 16 friends embarked on a charity cycle ride that took us from Lymington to London and back, a total distance of 200 miles (put the calculator down, that’s 100 miles each day!).

Like my fellow riders, I do not consider myself a cyclists but nevertheless, we all managed to ride the 200 mile distance to make it back to Lymington safely, give or take a few blisters on the backside!

For full details of how the event went, and to see photo's from the ride weekend, please visit our event page by clicking on the following link www.justgiving.com/onya-bike

Although the challenge has been completed successfully we are still looking for a few more donations before we hand over all the funds we have raised to our chosen charities.  To donate, please click on the blue button above that says 'Donate Now' and follow the instructions.  Your donation will make a difference.

All proceeds raised will be donated to Oakhaven Hospice and Cancer Research.  The funds you donate on this site will go directly to Oakhaven, who have then kindly agreed to split the money and send half to Cancer Research (unfortunately, you can not donate to two charities via one sponsorship page), and if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving adds an additional 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, to your donation.

The two charities are two very good causes.  Around 300,000 people are diagnosed with Cancer in the UK and Ireland each year.  It’s an illness that affects many family’s.  Cancer Research works hard to improve the understanding of cancer and develop better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.  Oakhaven Hospice, situated in Lymington, provides specialist care to patients, carers and families who are facing complex physical, emotional and practical difficulties arising from advanced progressive life-limiting illness.  Oakhaven only receives 20% of its funding from the NHS, for the remaining, they are reliant on the goodwill of others, such as idiots who don't normally go near a bike deciding to ride 200 miles in one weekend!

Please make a donation and feel free to leave a message.

Thank you for your time,

Dave
