Story

As most of you will already know, I’m not impartial to a bit of light exercise every now and again……… ;)

If I’m not trudging through the rain and snow up the mountains in Wales, taking to the roads for half marathons, putting on my triathlete’s water wings, I am certainly eagerly anticipating my full marathon up Mount Snowdon later this year!

However, my biggest and most challenging event to date will be the Trailwalker Challenge 2013 in aid of Oxfam and The Gurkha Welfare Trust.

Starting at 6am on the 27 July 2013, come relentless rain or scorching sunshine, our team of four, including myself, Matt Fox, Simon Morris and Andrew Fellows, will embark upon a epic and continuous 62.5 mile (100km) trek over mixed terrain across the South Downs National Park which covers a total ascent of 2,500 metres – the same as Ben Nevis and Mount Snowdon put together!

The average completion time is 27 hours, however, we will aim to complete in under 24 hours – yes, that means we will be walking through the night and without sleep!! It won’t be easy and will definitely be a test of physical endurance and mental grit and determination, least alone character building!

Ok, so here's the charity bit, the part where most stop reading, but I urge you to read on.....

Whether you’re reading this in the office, at home or on the move, we all have something in common – we all have the security of food, water, accommodation, healthcare and education, most of which we all sadly take for granted.  These basic amenities however, are not available to everyone.

All the money I raise will be split between Oxfam and The Gurkha Welfare Trust.  Oxfam will use my sponsorship money to aid emergencies all over the world and in the UK, fight poverty and assist with long term welfare campaigns including education and health.  The Gurkha Welfare Trust provides support and care to retired Gurkha  soldiers and/or their widow families in the UK and Nepal, following their dedicated army service for almost 200 years.

I’m not asking you to trek with me on the 27/28 July, nor endure the inevitable fatigue, blisters and aching body during and after, but I am asking you to sponsor me to do it and in return I promise there will be photos of our progress along the way!!

Please, please give as much as you can by way of sponsorship and know that every penny you donate will go towards helping those who are less fortunate that ourselves.

Thank you all!
