Story

Last year I ran the 10k Race for Life in support of the most amazing man I have ever met, Adam Winkworth.

I ran for our 'happy ever after'.

I wrote a story of hope that although we were told no cure was ever possible for Adam, time would be on our side. A story of hope that time would allow us some special moments that would become precious memories we hold in our hearts forever.

Heartbreakingly in September last year, that time ran out and Adam passed away. I now live off these precious memories and they brighten my day when it clouds over and rains.

This year I will once again run for our 'happy ever after'. I am again doing the 10k Race for Life and I will run in memory of the most inspirational, brave, kind, loving and just bloody fantastic man I have ever met, Adam Winkworth.

My world.

I've never shared this before but Adam's cause of death was metastatic lung cancer. It was actually the cancer in his liver that took him in the end. It had simply spread too much and as the liver is a major organ, it became unable to function and quite simply shut down and stopped working.

Me personally, I feel earlier diagnosis is the way forward. Too many people are diagnosed too late with stage IV cancer which has already spread from the primary site. By this stage it is aggressively becoming out of control that often, it's just too late for the chemo to play 'catch up'.

There is no stage V.

Earlier diagnosis gives the professionals more chance of containing the cancer and fighting it head on and this is where I personally feel research and money needs to be thrown at. A bit like catching the liquid ink from a fountain pen before it spills onto the kitchen roll. So to speak.

But, I am by far no expert.

I am however, asking that if you can spare anything, even a couple of pounds, please, please donate to my fundraising page for Cancer Research UK. Cancer has never touched me until last year and it has knocked me and the children in the most horrible, cruel way possible. I never, ever thought I would be in this position having lost someone and practically begging people to sponsor me for a run. But that's what I am doing.

The day Adam was diagnosed at Kettering General Hospital they told us approximately 250 people a year were diagnosed. That's just at Kettering hospital and that's just lung cancer. That figure is alarming and just too close to home to comprehend.

In memory of the only man I have ever truely loved and our 'happy ever after' - please sponsor my run and help try to make a difference.

I appreciate money is tight and there are so many people asking for sponsorship at the minute, so even a share of my link would be greatly appreciated.

Last year's fundraising total was AMAZING and I can't begin to thank everyone for their continued support and kind words. My 2015 page is still active on this profile if you want to look back and see how much sponsorship I raised last year and read the very beginning of our journey.

From the very bottom of my broken heart, Thankyou so very much xxx
