Story
As many of you know we lost our beloved Dennis in October.
He was a brilliant, loving and generous husband, father, grandad, father in law, brother, uncle, friend and boss and we will all miss him terribly.
Dennis sadly passed away after suffering a brain haemorrhage. This was caused by an AVM (arteriovenous malformation) which he was born with but unaware of until May last year when it first made itself known.
Whilst it frustrated him and affected his walking and speech, Dennis, ever the fighter, spent the last year determined to get better. He attended weekly rehab sessions firstly in person and then virtually during lockdown, he used an exercise bike and grip strengtheners and would do his best to walk around the kitchen as often as possible. It was so typically him to try and try again despite how difficult it was.
When he went to Sheffield last October for Stereotactic Radiosurgery there were young patients there for the same treatment. Whilst the sadness of Dennis' passing is raw and palpable, he did manage 75 years unaffected by his undiagnosed condition. Others are affected from birth so it's important to raise awareness and provide support for those living with the condition.
Your kind donation is very much appreciated and will go directly to the Neuro Research Fund at St George's where Dennis was cared for last August when he was initially admitted.
There are lots of different aspects of AVM care that will benefit ranging from patient groups and research organisations to treatment centres.
Your money will also help to fund new operating microscopes which cost hundreds of thousands of pounds; these allow the surgeon to delicately divide and remove AVMs and without them surgery is impossible.
Thanks for reading and thanks for giving whatever you can.
All our love,
Judy, Anna & James
