Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

please note that the minimum is £2700 and that I want to raise as much as possible and that some of this also covers my cost of going for the guides and flights.......

My reasons for raising money for this amazing charity is because I have had experience of working with people with Alzheimer's for many years due to working in the health care sector. Then in the later years of my fathers life he developed the disease which really brought it home to me that we need to make a difference and try and develop a cure, as its seems such a cruel end to a persons life.

My father Alan Watson whom was a former Olympic rower, started his career while at Latymer Upper School where he rowed for the team and later coached on top of his full time teaching post. He had a very successful career in rowing representing Great Britan in the European Games of 1955, and Olympic Games of 1956 rowing in the eights both times. He later was elected the ultimate rowing honour, a stewardship of Henley Royal Regatta, and he is credited with enabling the University of London Rowing Club to achieve the leading position it holds today in British rowing because of his coaching there. While he was chief coach UL notched up a total of eight Henley wins, with thirty of his students he personally coached between 1960-1974 representing Great Britain in the Olympics, the World Championships, European Championships and the Perth Commonwealth Games.

He later became a school master at Haileybury College , Hertfordshire untill he retired in 1989 from teaching woodwork and crafts.

He sadly passed away in Feb 2007, and I have finally got the courage to go ahead and do this in his memory.

So here we are I have signed up for the Nepal Trek in November which is going to the biggest challenge of my life, as for all those who know me, im a bit of a moaner and having to camp for many days wth no shower, and no make-up, no GHD's....Oh and perfume and all the things I love.!! I am sure this will push me to the edge. My father was an admiral man and always pushed himself, so I guess I should embark on this challenge, and get my walking boots on and get training, and prepare for 6-7 hours walking a day.

I am orgaininsing some events over the summer and will keep people posted....

Also there is still places for this trek if anyone who knew my father or would like to come and support Alzheimers please contact me via e-mail or them on 0870 417 092 or vist alzheimers.org.uk/trekking

Trek details and itinerary can be found on the Alzheimer's website...!!

Alzheimer's Helpline

'After my phone call to you I felt helped, comforted and reassured.'

A carer

Imagine that you, or someone you love, has just been diagnosed with dementia. Once the shock has subsided, who will answer all your questions and help alleviate the anxiety and distress that often go hand in hand with this condition?

Alzheimer's Society believes that no one should face dementia alone. Through our helpline services we offer reassurance and a sympathetic listening ear, as well as up-to-date information and advice on all aspects of living with dementia.

Over £250,000 is needed every year just to maintain this service at its current level - and sadly we know only too well that there are many, many more people out there affected by dementia who could benefit from it. Promoting the helpline more widely and building its capacity will only be possible with the support of our valued donors.

Quality Research in Dementia

Alzheimer's Society is committed to defeating dementia through research. We work with the scientific community in partnership with people affected by dementia, and currently invest over £6 million in dementia research.

The Alzheimer's Society research programme provides funding for research into the cause, cure, care and prevention of dementia to improve treatment for people today and to search for a cure for tomorrow.

However, we could do even more. A lack of funds forces us to make some very tough decisions. Many quality research projects are turned down because there simply is not enough money to fund all of the projects we would like to.

'Every time I have to refuse funding for a proposal it's extremely frustrating - I know we could well be rejecting work that would help us make a significant leap forwards'

Dr Susanne Sorensen, Head of Research

Dementia research is seriously under-funded. The government invests eight times less in dementia research than cancer research. If nothing is done now, one million people will develop dementia in the next 10 years. Even by delaying the onset of dementia by five years, we could halve the number of deaths from this devastating condition. We must invest in research to defeat dementia.

Your support will help us to provide and expand these vital services
